SURFSIDE BEACH - Erosion from pounding waves yanked the pilings of a beach house from the ground Tuesday, causing the structure to collapse and smash apart, and officials say the heavy surf is taking a serious toll on Beach Drive as well.

Surfside Beach crews were sent to the shoreline Tuesday to assess Beach Drive's structural integrity and clean up debris from the beachfront home.
