GALVESTON - The reason the medical professionals who treated the victim of a motorcycle crash near Jamaica Beach Friday were shocked to hear of his death was because of the minor nature of his injury, and this morning it was learned that 39-year old Roy Ener of Sheppard, Texas is alive after all.

The Police News carried the story of the fatality after reading of Ener's death in the Galveston Daily News.

After receiving calls from persons on the scene who were surprised by Ener's supposed demise, we obtained a copy of the investigation report which did not mention a fatality.

A Galveston police official told us he would follow up on the report and let us know.  We did not hear back from him.

This morning we heard from Ener's employer, Low Volt Technologies of Hempstead, Texas confirming that Ener was not fatally injured in the crash.  Company spokesman Larry Mayhew told The Police News that Roy Ener's brother is a partner in the business and Roy is an employee.

The Galveston Daily News in a story published online today attributes the information about Ener's death to police and city officials in Jamaica Beach and Galveston.

The Police News regrets this erroneous report.

Our previous incorrect story:

GALVESTON - A 39-year old Sheppard, Texas man was killed late Friday night as he rode with a group of bikers on the San Luis Pass Highway westbound entering Jamaica Beach.

Galveston Police Investigator Bradley Stroud said Roy Ener was riding in the back of a group of motorcycles when he lost control and fell off his bike.  Ener fell off on the side of the road but his motorcycle continued sliding for 375 feet.

Jamaica Beach Assistant Fire Chief Troy Beasley told The Police News he and others that were there were shocked to learn that Ener had died at the hospital.  Other than a gash on his head there were few signs of injury, no road rash, no apparent broken bones.  "He was stablized before he was loaded onto the helicopter," Beasley said.

Ener was pronounced dead at UTMB Hospital.

There was another motorcycle crash on the north side of the Galveston Causeway Saturday evening in which two bikers were airlifted to UTMB.  That accident was investigated by the DPS and Galveston County Sheriff's Deputies.  Both parties survived their injuries.

JUST GOES TO SHOW YOU DO NOT TRUST THE GALVESTON DAILY NEWS FOR ACCURATE REPORTS. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PRACTICE OF THIS PAPER. THIRD RATE REPORTING WITH THIRD RATE FACT CHECKERS.

How interesting to be able to read of your own demise in the GALVESTON DAILY NEWS. I usually expect misinformation from them, so I'm not surprised. I am however surprised it hit the police news. I am sure that some of you were there and might have written the report, but I'm happy that you've quickly stepped up to correct the error.

Glad that guy survived. Absolute agreement with comments regarding the poor professionalism of the GDN. And their website has so much "hack" advertising, poor programming and low server performance that it is a perfect "bad example" of how a news website should be presented.
