MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- A man has been arrested in a bank robbery that occurred Monday morning , Nov. 30, at the Amegy Bank in the 32000 Blk. of F.M. 2978 and F.M. 1488.
Sheriff's deputies were called to the bank at approximately 9:20 a.m., and discovered that the bank had been robbed by a man armed with a pistol. The robber was wearing an overcoat, with a hat and earmuffs, and had fled on foot with an undetermined amount of money.
The suspect's description was broadcast by Montgomery County Sheriff's dispatcher.
About an hour later, a DPS Trooper saw a man matching the description of the robber walking near the vicinity of the bank with no jacket. The Trooper attempted to stop the man, but he ran. He was apprehended behind the Gold's Gym at the intersection of F.M. 1488 and F.M. 2978.
The robber is identified as John Vincent Travers, 48, believed to have been living in the Magnolia, Texas area.Travers cooperated with
investigators and the money, weapon and clothing were recovered. He was booked into the Montgomery County Jail charged with aggravated robbery.
According to police, after the robbery Travers walked to a nearby coffee shop and then went to nearby barbershop where he had his haircut and his mustached trimmed. Reportedly, Travers was unemployed and needed money to pay bills.
