PORTER, TX -- Around 10 p.m. Saturday night, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office responded to a robbery call at a convenience store in the 25000 block of Sorters Road in Porter.
Three armed Hispanic men entered the store demanded money, took cigarettes and lottery tickets and fled in a gray or silver Mazda SUV with no rear license plate.
The trio probably thought everything went as planned as they left with their loot. They had no way of knowing the female store clerk, whose cell phone they also took, had no intention of letting them get away. She pursued the vehicle southbound on Sorters Road to Northpark, then to US 59 south where they continued at a high rate of speed.
Montgomery County law enforcement notified Houston Police and the Harris County Pct. 4 Constable's Office as the clerk continued to follow the robbers and communicate with dispatchers by way of a second cell phone.
As she followed the bandits, they turned west on Will Clayton and from that road turned north on McKay Road.
Behind Houston Northeast Medical center, two of the men bailed out of the car and ran into the woods, and the third man continued on in the car.
Houston Police patrol units responded and were joined in the search by K-9 units and an HPD helicopter.
An extensive search ensued, but none of the robbers were apprehended.
