During these tough economic times, the thought of the Christmas holidays is the furthest thing from the minds of struggling families. The Friendswood Police Officers' Association is hoping to be a shining symbol of hope for children in the community that wouldotherwise do without this Christmas season.  In past years, the Friendswood community has been amazing, with a spirit of giving and outpouring of generosity for the Blue Santa Program.  With the many challenges ahead for recipient families, even small steps, such as ensuring each child has a present under the Christmas tree, takes on great significance.

Officer Lisa Price and Corporal Michael Scambray will be coordinating the Friendswood Police Officers' Association Blue SantaProgram, along with support from the Friendswood Police Department, the City of Friendswood and generous businesses and citizens. Blue Santa helps needy families by providing toys for each child, 12 years old and younger who are referred and acceptedinto the program.

The Blue Santa Program is a big operation.  Days before the deliveries, toys are sorted, and a big "wrapping party" is held. The toys are wrapped, labeled and packaged for delivery by Friendswood police officers just days before Christmas.

The Annual Blue Santa/Sonic Cop Hop will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Friendswood Sonic located at 806 S. Friendswood Drive.  Pete Garcia, Sonic's owner, has graciously hosted this event for many years.  Toy donations will be accepted, along with officers accepting "tips" from customers to benefit the program.

If you would like more information about the Friendswood Police Officers' Association Blue Santa Program, or would like to donate new, unwrapped toys, you may call the Friendswood Police Department at (281) 996-3313 or come by the Friendswood Public Safety Building located at 1600 Whitaker Drive, Friendswood, TX.
