CONROE - A Montgomery County Jail inmate was pronounced dead at a local hospital Friday evening, where he was taken by ambulance after hanging himself in the jail's infirmary, according to Sheriff's Office officials.
Douglas James Snyder, a 32-year-old homeless man, was discovered around 5 o'clock Tuesday afternoon by members of the jail medical personnel. He had fashioned a noose from a jail blanket.
Snyder was in the jail infirmary because of an existing medical condition.
Snyder, a previous resident of Bacliff in Galveston County was wanted for jumping bond after he failed to show up for court on a charge of carrying a pistol without a license.
Snyder's body was sent to the Southeast Texas Forensic Center for autopsy.
Conroe Police arrested Snyder Sunday, charging him with a state jail felony-theft. He also had an outstanding warrant in Galveston County for bond forfeiture.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit and the Texas Rangers are investigating Snyder's death.
